Newsflash! The Art Center enters the cyberspace age! We are considering email as an option for distributing the monthly newsetter. We are asking our members for input. If you would like to receive the newsletter on-line please print and then fill out the form at the bottom returning it to us as soon as possible.

It is appropriate to start the month out with thanks. Thanks to Judy and Art Vander for organizing a very successful Sunday concert on October 21. A special thanks to Robert Krupnick for performing. Thanks to Dorothy Loebl for donating the 1924 Steinway Grand piano and to the Loebl family for funding the necessary repairs to the piano. This was the inaugural performance of Robert and the Steinway in Ojai. Both were enthusiastically received.

Thanks to those who participated in Ojai Day: Catherine Dain, Len Klaif, Herb Hemming, Edmund Arredondo, Doug Freidlander, Nelson Fox, Gai Jones, Carole Jo Adams, John Hankins, George P. Miller, Steve & Liz Grumette. It is always great to have Art Center representation at community events.

THEATRE......

110 in the Shade, the exciting musical version of The Rainmaker will run in our theatre, Nov. 2 to Dec. 2, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. This romantic play is set during the dustbowl era when a charismatic con man named Starbuck arrives in towm claiming he can make it rain. He arrives about the same time Lizzie Currie returns to the family ranch from an unsuccessful trip to the city find a husband. Love is in the air but is rain? Buddy Wilds stars supported by a talented cast including John Slade, Jim Bailey and Armando Hernandez. Jaye Hersh directs and Tom Eubanks produces. The 2008 Theatre Season has been chosen. A great bargain - includes 5 full-run shows, 3 specials and cost is only $65 for Art Center members. See enclosed brochure.

AUDITIONS - for the Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux, will be held Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2, 3- 5 p.m. The story is of an eccentric woman and her friends who foil a group of greedy business planning to destroy Paris for the oil beneath its streets. The show has a large cast and all actors ages 20 years and older are encouraged to audition. For more information email director John Slade at twoslades@earthlink.net or call him at 646-3733. The play will run Feb. 1 through March 1. Rehearsal times to be determined.

The final offfering of our 2007 season is the radio version of “It’s a Wonderful LIfe”. Think Prairie Home Companion with Jimmy Stewart. Buddy Wilds directs. Peter Fox plays lead. This is our holiday production and will play Dec. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23.

ART....

The Gold Coast Watercolor Society returns for their annual exhibit. One of our most popular exhibits, artists from all over the tri -counties display a variety of works using a variety of subjects, colors, style and techniques. For information on participating in this show, call Dorothy Brunkan 653-5280.

Coming up in the gallery... The December exhibit will be, “The Wonder of Wreaths”. Artists are invited to bring imaginative, non-perishable 3 D wreath creations to the center on Saturday, December 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entry fee is $10 each or 3 for $25. All work must be for sale and must be securely wired for hanging. Call 646-0117 for more info.

POETRY....

An honest-to-god, actual poetry event will take place on Monday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
Our Literary Branch, headed by Liz Grumette, will host a free evening of poetry readings by a dozen members of our community as they come together to celebrate the art of poetry by reading some of their favorite poems. John Kertisz, Poet Laureate Emeritus of Venice, CA and now an active local poet has organized what promises to be a lively evening of poetry in the Art Center theatre.
